For seven years, the Israelites were oppressed by the Midianites because they rebelled against the Lord. This oppression drastically altered their way of life, forcing them to hide in caves and seek refuge in the mountains out of constant fear.
Eventually, the Lord used Gideon to give them victory over the Midianites, leading to their freedom and peace for forty years. This divine intervention was crucial for their deliverance and restoration.
